The most popular names for babies born in the north and north-east this year were revealed yesterday.
Topping the list in Aberdeen for boys were Ethan, Jack and Riley, with Emily, Olivia and Sophie for girls, according to the registrar general for Scotland.
In Aberdeenshire the most popular names were Jack, Logan and Daniel and Isla, Lucy and Sophie.
Parents in the Highlands favoured Jack followed by Logan and Finlay while Isla came out top for girls followed by Emily and Olivia.
In Moray, Oliver, Archie and Cameron topped the list for boys and Ava, Isla and Amelia for girls.
James, Jack and Robbie topped the list for boys in Orkney and Ava, Brooke and Emma for girls.
In Shetland, Alexander, James and Joe were the three most popular boys’ names and Ava, Chloe and Ella for girls.
Daniel, Aaron and Alfie and Isla, Lucy and Jessica topped the list in the Western Isles.
National Records of Scotland registered the births of around 26,700 boys and 25,200 girls in the first 11 months of 2013.
Across the country, Jack and Sophie are the most popular baby names for the sixth year running with 561 boys and 474 girls given those names.
The statistics show some notable fluctuations within the table of the top 100 most popular names.
For boys, James became the second most popular name for the first time this century, pushing Lewis into third place.
Oliver rose six places to fourth and Daniel is up one at fifth.
The two new entrants to the boys’ top 10 were Lucas and Charlie, while Logan, Alexander and Harry completed the list.
Names such as Harris, Jacob, Noah and Thomas have pushed their way into the top 20.
For girls, Olivia climbed two places to become the second most popular name in this year’s list and, being registered 465 times, was just nine behind Sophie.
Emily fell from second to third and Isla rose from sixth to fourth.
The girls’ top 10 also had two new entrants with the names Ella and Millie, with Lucy, Ava, Amelia and Jessica making up the list.
