Aberdeen school pupils had front row seats when the city’s traditional nativity scene was unveiled at the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting yesterday.
Aberdeen Lord Provost George Adam, local councillors and church leaders took part in the festive event.
It also featured carol singing led by pupils from Albyn School, Holy Family RC School, St Joseph’s RC School, St Margaret’s School for Girls, St Peter’s RC School and Robert Gordon’s College, followed by a blessing of the nativity.
The life-size Italian-made set, featuring Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the three wise men and two shepherds, is on display in a specially constructed shed in the kirkyard, where it can be seen from Union Street.
The call to worship was conducted by the Reverend Stephen Taylor, before Mr Adam offered a civic welcome to all in attendance.
He said: “Christmas is the season of goodwill to all and a fun time for many children around the world.
“The blessing of the nativity scene is a reminder of why we celebrate this very special time of year.
“I hope that many people, especially children, will come and visit the scene over the festive period.”
