A house builder’s generous donation has helped bring plans to create a rooftop garden at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) a step closer.
CALA Homes contributed £5,000 to the funding and development of a rooftop garden at the Aberdeen hospital.
The garden, which will be sited above a new entrance to the Infirmary’s Emergency Care Centre, will offer a safe and attractive outdoor space for relaxation and rejuvenation, and will be accessible to all patients – by foot, in a wheelchair, or in a bed.
NHS Grampian Healthcare Chaplain, Rev. James Falconer, accepted the donation from CALA.
He said; “A great number of in-patients at ARI stay with us for long-term care. During their stay, we would like to complement their care with pleasant surroundings and access to a beautiful outdoor space.
“We’re really grateful to all our sponsors for their kind support and enthusiasm for the project.
“The garden is in the very early stages of construction at the moment, so CALA’s donation will be used to take the project nearer completion.”
Vivian MacLean, sales and marketing manager for CALA Homes (North), added: “The development of the Rooftop Garden at the ARI is a great example of the strength of community in Aberdeen.
“At CALA, we are proud of our Aberdeen roots and we are delighted to be able to support the wider community in this way.”
On completion, the garden will feature the gold award-winning Royal Bank of Canada Blue Water Roof Garden from the Royal Horticultural Society’s 2013 Chelsea Flower Show. The garden is expected to be completed by summer.
