Aberdeen midfielder Nicky Low was delighted to see practice making perfect by scoring the winner against Ross County at Pittodrie yesterday with a superb free kick.
The 21-year-old had not previously scored for the Dons but opened his account only two minutes into his first league start this season with a sublime set-piece.
The Dons should have gone on and won the game by a more comfortable margin but a Scott Vernon penalty in 13 minutes was saved by Michael Fraser.
Further profligacy in front of goal from the hosts meant Low’s early strike proved to be enough to win the points.
Low said: “I practise the free kicks every day in training, so it makes it all the sweeter when it works out like that.
“I thought Niall McGinn was going to take the free kick. I asked him if he was going to take it and he said he was, so I was surprised when he left it.
“I just took the shot and I was delighted when it went in. It is a great feeling to get my first goal for the club and I am hoping to get a few more.
“Josh Magennis had said to me before the game that he felt I was going to score and he told me to come up to see him if I did, so that was why I ran to Josh when it went in. I have been patient this season and had to wait for my chance. That was my first start in the league, so I am happy with how it went.”
