Ross County’s new loan signing Jordan Slew praised the Staggies defenders after making his debut in the 2-1 derby win against Caley Thistle in Inverness.
The 21-year-old centre forward completed a move from Blackburn Rovers until the end of the season just hours before yesterday’s kick-off and played a part in both County goals.
Scott Boyd and Alex Cooper netted in two first-half minutes for the Dingwall side to shock Caley Jags, who had Ross Draper sent off before Aaron Doran claimed a late goal.
Slew, a 6ft 3in attacker who cost Blackburn £1.1million from Sheffield United, made a big impact but was keen to credit the County defenders who held firm as Inverness attempted to make a late comeback. Slew was content after helping County win on the road for the first time since last February – at Aberdeen.
He said: “The most important thing was to get the three points. It was a tough game. We dug in and our centre halves did excellently. If it was not for them we probably would not have won the game. They carried us through. It was a derby game and in the last few minutes we had to work back as well as go forward. I know the team has been struggling but I don’t want to look into that. It was all about winning the game. We want to build and move up the table.”
