Time County got season going again, starting tomorrow

Scott Boyd has vowed to repay the Ross County supporters for their loyalty by starting the new year off in style against Highland rivals Caley Thistle.

The central defender is painfully aware the Staggies need to improve after losing five league games in a row and believes beating Inverness at Caledonian Stadium tomorrow would be the best way to do it.

He said: “Going into a derby anything can happen. I am sure our supporters will make a noise and, hopefully, we can put in a performance they can be proud of and get the result.

“The supporters have stuck with us. We heard them at Pittodrie (in a 1-0 defeat against Aberdeen on Sunday) and they have turned up in numbers.

“It is important they get behind us. They know we are going through a tough time but it will turn.

“We have had a lot of good times. Sometimes you do go through a bumpy patch but we will come out the better for it.

“When you look at the run of form we are in we want to go there and turn things around.

“There is not a better time to do it than in a derby at the turn of the year.

“Last year it was the same thing with St Mirren away at the start of January.

“There will be reinforcements coming in and it will be a big game for us on all fronts. Things will turn for us if we keep working as hard as we are.

“I am sure there will be players coming in that will help us along the way.”

Greek defender Evangelos Oikonomou and goalkeeper Eirik Johansen are set to join the Staggies when the transfer window opens tomorrow and Boyd has no doubt the injection of new blood will benefit County.

He said: “We are a bit thin on numbers and the manager is looking to add quality to the squad.

“It gives everyone a lift when new players come in. Oikonomou was here on our good run last season and he is a good character to have in the dressing-room as well.

“It is good he is here and I am sure he will not be the only one.

“It will add competition for places and it is up to you to raise your game if you want to be in the side.

“Every season we have progressed and that is what we are going to try to do in the remainder of the season.”
