Caley Thistle midfielder Aaron Doran believes Inverness must tighten up at the back after conceding two first-half goals to lose the Highland derby at home.
The Irishman netted a late consolation but was left dismayed at the manner in which Ross County duo Scott Boyd and Alex Cooper scored for the Staggies to claim an upset win in Inverness.
Doran said: “It was like the Aberdeen game (when Inverness lost 4-3 after losing four first-half goals). We were on top at the start and then out of nowhere County broke on us and scored.
“We all want to create so much that we are all attacking and leaving ourselves open a little bit. We just need to keep some players behind the ball, keep our shape and keep it a bit tighter. We were all going forward. We are trying to do too much, maybe. They broke on us twice. I tried to play a short free kick to Danny Williams. It went to Graeme Shinnie and the ball did not quite get back to me and they scored again. County sat in and kept it tight like we should have. Unfortunately, we could not get the second goal.”
Doran has no doubt Scottish Premiership leading scorer Billy McKay can fire the Caley Jags to victory at Motherwell on Saturday. He said: “We have shown what we can do as an attacking side Billy McKay has gone a few games without scoring a goal, which is a drought for him. Hopefully, he can bang in a few next time.”
