Jack pays the price at City

Jack pays the price at City

Elgin City chairman Graham Tatters is keen to bring in a new manager quickly after sacking Ross Jack yesterday.

Tatters insisted Jack’s departure from the League 2 team was amicable.

The 54-year-old manager, who would have been out of contract in May, spent five years in charge of the Moray club.

Elgin lost to bottom club Queen’s Park at Airdrie last week and, after the team won only one game in its last five, both club and manager agreed to make a change.

A new man is unlikely to be in place before Saturday’s home game against Montrose, with Elgin in ninth place in the table.

Tatters said: “We have not discussed the position with anyone. There are a lot of things we need to discuss as a board.

“Saturday’s result did not help. We had a board meeting on Monday night to discuss it and agree a way forward.

“We sat down with Ross and agreed to part company. I am disappointed it has ended this way. Ross has been excellent in his time at the club.

“He is a good manager and coach and there are various reasons why things haven’t happened.

“The bottom line is that this season it has just not seemed to come together.

“Results have not gone the way we wanted and Ross will be as disappointed as anyone about that. He is a winner through and through and he is really down.”

Tatters expected more from his side this season and added: “We were all hoping to be at the top end of the table, Ross more than anybody.

“It has not worked out and it is very difficult to put a finger on why. We have been competitive all the way through the season and people keep on saying: ‘Why are we in we this position?’

“It was time for a change and both parties agreed. It was not one-sided. There was no aggravation at all. We sat down and had a discussion and came to an amicable agreement to part company.”

Tatters made the decision to find a new manager with the future in mind.

He added: “We hope to be in the play-offs this season. It will be hard, although we have plenty of games left.

“We need to get someone in as quickly as possible to see what they need to help us progress.

“It is important for next season as well with the pyramid system coming in and relegation in the division.

“We want to keep our place in the SPFL. We don’t want to be anywhere else.”
