VIDEO: Blizzards cause near white-out for Cairngorms motorists

This is the scene at the CairnGorm Mountain ski area this morning as blizzards and hurricane force winds sweep the area.

It’s no wonder the attraction is closed – this video shows the terrible conditions faced by staff trying to reach the base station.

The wipers are on overdrive as these motorists try to get up the mountain.

Finally, the lights of the base station come into view through the gloom.

Snow ploughs are out on the ski road, trying to clear the route, which is covered in snow.

And the weather gets worse higher up.

Winds are reportedly gusting at 100 mph at the mouth of the famous mountain railway.
