Former Aberdeen and Ross County manager Jimmy Calderwood is on the verge of a return to football with Dutch club De Graafschap.
He is expected to succeed former Rangers midfielder Pieter Huistra, who resigned last month.
The club, which is sixth in the Dutch second tier, the Erste Divisie, hopes to confirm Calderwood’s appointment today. The former Dons manager, 58, said: “I have an interview today and all being well I’ll end up there.
“I spoke to the club 10 days ago and that went very well. I’d be disappointed if it didn’t work out. I hope I’ll be on the training ground in Doetinchem in the morning.”
Calderwood has not worked in Scottish football since leaving County in 2011. His last coaching role was in the Netherlands with Go Ahead Eagles in 2012, where he led the club to the promotion play-offs.
The Scot built his reputation as a manager in Dutch football with spells at NEC and Willem II before moving to Dunfermline in 1999 for five years.
He was appointed Dons manager in 2004 and spent five seasons in charge.
