Escaping Cardiff carnage a Filip for Kiss

Escaping Cardiff carnage a Filip for Kiss

Filip Kiss was relieved to leave the chaos and confusion at Cardiff City behind after making a dream debut to his loan spell at Ross County with two goals against Partick Thistle.

The Slovak midfielder spent 18 months out of the picture at the Welsh Premier League club under the colourful stewardship of Malaysian owner Vincent Tan.

The 23-year-old felt the strain of playing for the first time since August 2012 at Firhill after suffering tightness in his calf early on, but persevered to net twice and claim a point for County in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Kiss believes he can improve as the Staggies take on Dundee United and Hearts at home in the next two weeks.

He said: “The last year has been so frustrating, not playing in the first team at Cardiff and only for the reserves.

“I could not wait to play again in a first team, in front of people in a stadium again – I did well against Partick Thistle, but I could still have done better as we did not get all three points.

“I was not surprised to see the manager Malky Mackay go at Cardiff.

“There had been so many changes at Cardiff and the owner wants everything to move quickly.

“The owner wanted things done his way so it was a very difficult situation for Malky, it was not surprising that he eventually went.

“It is more difficult for the manager when he has someone telling him what to do. The players just got on with it and focused on doing our best on the pitch.

“We heard all the crazy stories about the owner as well and laughed about it in the dressing room.

“He changed the colour of the shirts from blue to red, which a lot of people were not happy about.

“I met him when I first signed but I did not deal with him too much afterwards – he wants to do things his way.”

Kiss is confident County can climb the Scottish Premiership after making an unbeaten start to 2014.

He added: “It is a bit more physical than I expected but our team is good enough to do well in this league.

“We started well against Partick, but it was a shame we conceded three goals.

“I was happy we got a point against very hard opposition and hopefully we will carry on getting more points.”
