A NEW vision for the Aberdeen city centre of the future has won backing from councillors across the political divide and one of the UK’s top retail bosses.
John Lewis director Andrew Murphy hailed architect John Halliday’s blueprint for breathing fresh life into the area as a “bold but practical” recipe for success.
Mr Halliday’s ideas were revealed exclusively in the Press and Journal yesterday.
The Halliday Fraser Munro chief executive has updated proposals he originally revealed at the end of the summer based on relocating the entrance to the train station to Union Bridge.
They now include a canopy over Union Street and an indoor link from Union Square to the Trinity Centre.
Yesterday, members of the local authority gave a warm response to the latest plans. Conservative group leader Fraser Forsyth warned against showing a “poverty of ambition” and the SNP and Liberal Democrats said the scheme merited “serious” consideration.
