Gordonstoun’s rugby players are preparing for a four-match tour of Romania in March.
Twenty-eight players from the school’s under-18 squad will play two matches in Bucharest and two in Brasov during the 10-day tour – from March 13 to 23.
The school has sent teams to Sri Lanka and Croatia in recent years and coach Steve Brown expects some tough matches.
He said: “I don’t know if many schools have been to Romania to play rugby. We were the first to go to Croatia. In 2008 we went to Sri Lanka and I think we were the first to go there as well. That was an interesting experience. Rugby is really growing in Romania. It went through quite a difficult patch but they had a really good season last year. We will be facing some tough teams.
“In Croatia the players were very big and very physical, although their skill-set wasn’t as good as ours. The Romanian teams could be quite similar. They will be big, strong guys and a good test.
“There are strong connections between the oil industries in Aberdeen and Romania. There are a number of firms with offices here and there, so it would be great if there were Scots guys working in Romania at the matches.”
Before then, the Gordonstoun team has the final of the under-18 Scottish Schools Plate. They will face either Glenalmond College or Kelvinside Academy at Murrayfield on Wednesday.
