Ross County’s bid to sign French forward Yoann Arquin has stalled but Staggies manager Derek Adams still wants to make two more captures before the January window closes.
The 25-year-old Notts County attacker will train with County today but looks unlikely to complete a deal before tomorrow’s crucial Scottish Premiership game against Partick Thistle, if at all.
Slovakian midfielder Filip Kiss, who moved north on a loan deal from Cardiff City, does have a chance of featuring at Firhill as Adams made it clear he wants to strengthen further before the month ends.
He said: “Yoann is still here, he will be with us until the end of the week.
“He is a good player, but there are a number of obstacles to overcome if he is to come to us.
“Money is not the issue, he is still under contract at Notts County and we will see what happens.
“We are still looking to add a defender as well as a forward because we are still a little bit short of cover.
“We possibly have two more coming in and that would probably be us.
“We have done well so far to get four players in at the beginning of January.
“It has taken a wee bit of time but Filip has played in the English Championship a good number of times, and the Carling Cup final as well. He is a player with good pedigree who can play as a sitting or an attacking midfielder.
“We are delighted to get someone of his ability to add to Jordan Slew, Michael Tidser and Evangelos Oikonomou.
“He goes into the squad for the weekend.”
Back-to-back victories against Caley Thistle and St Johnstone suggest County can climb the table after a poor start to the campaign.
Adams added: “We have gone on a positive run with two wins and we want to keep it going.
“We did it last January, can we do it again?
“It makes a big difference to confidence by winning games but training was fine and always has been.
“We knew we would turn the corner at some point but it was just about getting that win and restoring confidence.
“To start off the new year the way we have, beating two teams in the top six, has been very good and we are going to try to prolong it.”
Defender Steven Saunders (hamstring) is County’s only injury concern for the trip to Firhill.
