John Hughes reckons his assistant manager Russell Latapy will improve every member of the first-team squad at Caley Thistle.
The 45-year-old arrived in the Highland capital last night and got to work right away with Hughes on the training ground today ahead of the trip to Kilmarnock tomorrow.
Latapy is expected to join Hughes in the Rugby Park dugout with the Inverness manager facing a selection dilemma.
Central defender Gary Warren and midfielder Ross Draper both return from suspension while midfielder Marley Watkins is fit again and both James Vincent and Greg Tansey are pushing for starting places.
Hughes is convinced the former Trinidad and Tobago international midfielder will shine and said: “Russell will be a perfect part of the team here. He is very clever on tactical work and his philosophy on how the game should be played.
“He is a fantastic character and very approachable, very humble, he would give you the last penny in his pocket.
“Russell was a world class footballer, Dwight Yorke named him in his all-time greatest team before Paul Scholes and David Beckham, that’s how good he was.
“He can work on the so-called technical players at the club and pass on bits and pieces to everyone. If anyone here doesn’t grasp it and learn from Russell from day one, he is a stupid boy.”
Hughes will not rush into strengthening his squad after bringing Tansey back north last week, although captain Richie Foran is still a doubt for the League Cup semi-final against Hearts on Sunday, February 2 as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
He added: “The position we will probably be looking at is centre forward. I don’t really want to bring anyone in to sit on the bench but if anything happened to Billy McKay it would be a rush.”
