The majority of Shetland’s inter island ferries will remain tied up tomorrow Wednesday morning as trade union Unite stages a three-hour walkout as part of industrial action agreed last week.
The services across Yell Sound, as well as from Whalsay and Skerries will not be operating between 6am and 9am.
Services across Bluemull Sound will be restricted as one of the two ferries between Yell and Unst will also be hit by industrial action.
Ferries across Bressay Sound and to and from Papa Stour will not be affected.
It is likely that the same action will be repeated at the same times on Christmas Eve and on Hogmanay.
The strike was called after 12 senior crew members unanimously voted for industrial action over a wage dispute.
Additional disruption can be expected at any time as mates will refuse to act up as masters and may not work overtime to cover annual and sick leave.
