Primary and secondary teachers from Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, and Moray schools are being invited to apply for an 18-month personal and professional development opportunity, featuring a four-week placement living and working in host communities in Rwanda during the summer of 2015.
Applications are currently open for Global Learning Partnerships – an engaging learning opportunity supporting the long-term development and delivery of global citizenship education within Scottish schools.
In Rwanda, practitioners will gain a special insight into another culture which will provide fascinating context to further support the teaching of global citizenship, as well as providing mentor support and professional development training to their Rwandan counterparts.
The programme is run by The Wood Foundation, Sir Ian Wood’s philanthropic charity based in Aberdeen, and delivered in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and Moray Council.
During the 2014 school summer holidays, 15 primary and secondary school teachers from the north-east travelled to Rwanda to take part in the opportunity, many of whom described it as ‘life-changing’, ‘the best thing you could do for CPD’ and that ‘it will make you a better teacher, it will make you a better person’.
Any teachers interested in taking part in the programme in 2015 can find out more information on www.thewoodfoundation.org.uk. Application forms can be downloaded from the website. The deadline for submission is Friday, January 16.
