FirstGroup has handed a bus driver a seat on its board in Aberdeen.
Ian Walker has driven round the firm’s Granite City routes for more than 20 years – and has now been hand-picked to represent the views of staff at the highest level.
The 61-year-old has been named as an employee director at First Aberdeen.
First Aberdeen’s parent company, FirstGroup, encourages its operating companies across the UK and North America to elect employee directors to their boards so that the views and opinions of staff are represented at the top.
“It is a privilege to sit on the First Aberdeen board and act as a voice for the drivers, cleaners, engineers, mechanics and office-based staff at the company,” said Mr Walker, of Sheddocksley.
“I’m proud and delighted that my colleagues have put their trust in me to help shape and influence the First Aberdeen board’s strategy and decisions.”
Duncan Cameron, director and general manager of First Aberdeen, welcomed the driver’s appointment.
He said: “Ian has been a valuable member of our team since 1992.
“I am sure in engaging closely with our employees he will help develop our business further.
“Given his huge contribution and commitment to the company over the years I’m not surprised that he’s been elected.
“On behalf of the board I’d like to extend our congratulations and we look forward to an excellent working relationship.”
