Gregg Carrol was last night back in Highland League football as manager of Huntly.
The 42-year-old Aberdeen taxi driver said: “I have enjoyed my break from the game but I am delighted to be back.
“When I met the Huntly board members I liked what I heard about how ambitious they are. I share those ambitions. I saw them beat Rothes 6-0 yesterday. There are some things to sort out but we’re certainly not the worst side in the world.”
Carrol confirmed Mark Gray has agreed to become his assistant but he is hoping to recruit someone else to make the assistant manager’s role a joint one.
He added: “I am delighted Mark has agreed to be my assistant but I want one other to join our management team. Mark and Martin Stewart will take the side for Wednesday’s Aberdeenshire Shield semi-final against Inver- urie Locos at Harlaw Park. They have done well since taking over the temporary reins.”
Carrol is the most successful Highland League manager in recent times, having lifted the title four times with Deveronvale and Buckie Thistle in a lucrative 10-year period between 2003 and 2013.
Huntly chairman, George Clark said: “We see Gregg as the ideal appointment for us.”
