It has already been dubbed “The Old Man of the Sea” and is causing a stir on photography forums around the world.
This spectacular image was captured by an amateur photographer as waves pounded a Hebridean island.
Ali Finlayson, a rigger at the Arnish fabrication yard near Stornoway. was in just the right place at the right time as the sea broke over rocks beside the Butt of Lewis lighthouse.
He and his wife Tina and their family live at Skigersta, near the beacon, and 48-year-old Mr Finlayson is a regular visitor to the Butt to capture images of extreme weather and fishing boats battling the conditions.
He said: “It wasn’t actually that wild at the time, the wind was probably 40 to 50 mph, but I usually go up for a couple of hours to try and capture something.
“The previous day the waves were much bigger and I had got a few good shots.”
The former fisherman added: “When I posted this one, the comments began straight away and I realised it was not just me that was seeing the image of the face. It has been amazing.
“There are comments now from all around the world.”
