Police are hunting two men after a vicious assault in a north-east town centre.
A 55-year-old man was set upon as he walked through a lane in Marishal Street, Peterhead. The victim, who was on his way to a local newsagent, was repeatedly kicked and punched on the head and body.
He was treated for facial injuries at the community hospital later. The attack happened on Saturday morning, just after 8am, in a passageway linking Marischal Street with Tollbooth Wynd.
The man’s attackers are described as being in their early 20s. One was wearing a grey top or jacket and Adidas tracksuit trousers, while the other had a dark coloured jacket, possibly with a hood.
A police spokesman said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in this area at this time and saw anything suspicious.”
Anyone with information should call police in Peterhead on 101 or freephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
