Wintry conditions caused disruption to ferry services and hazardous driving conditions on roads across the north west yesterday.
And more widespread snow was last night being forecast for overnight and today.
Yesterday morning, the trunk roads agency, BEAR Scotland, issued a warning to motorists in the north west. An agency spokes-woman said: “Snow and sleet conditions are making for difficult driving conditions on the A9 Drumochter, A82 Tyndrum, A83 Rest and Be Thankful, A85 Glen Ogle and A87 Glenshiel.”
And motorists were asked to drive with caution as the snow continued to fall throughout the morning peak traffic and during the day.
She added that BEAR had 42 winter service vehicles spreading salt and ploughing in the area.
Last night, she said: “Further snow is expected during the evening and overnight.
“Our patrol vehicles will continue to monitor road conditions around the clock. We encourage motorists to drive with care.”
The Caledonian MacBrayne Oban to Castlebay and Lochboisdale service was not expected to operate between Castlebay and Lochboisdale last night following a forecast of south-westerly winds of more than 45mph.
CalMac’s Fionnphort to Iona service was cancelled last night due to high winds. The ferry company also warned that the Small Isles service between Mallaig and Muck may be disrupted or cancelled at short notice this morning following a forecast of high winds and a heavy swell.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Wintry showers will continue to affect the Western Isles, Lochaber and the Northwest Highlands during Tuesday evening and overnight, with lying snow possible. Elsewhere, will be mainly dry with clear spells, with a widespread frost developing.”
He added that it would be windy around the west coast.
