A Highland road will remain shut over the festive period after a landslip.
The B9152 Kingussie-Aviemore route was closed earlier this week after several tonnes of mud and rock, as well as a number of trees, slipped from an embankment separating it from the busy A9 following heavy rain.
The landslip happened at Meadowside, near Newtonmore.
BEAR Scotland will work throughout the holiday period to clear the carriageway.
Between Christmas and New Year’s Day a contractor will be brought in to carry out repairs to the bank and clear debris from road and rail culverts.
A geotechnical engineer will visit the site to carry out an assessment and design for the embankment repair works.
Highland Council’s head of roads and transport, Richard Evans, said: “Bear Scotland have advised us that the contractor will be working during the holiday period, except on Christmas Day, to carry out the embankment and drainage repairs which will allow the road to be opened as soon as possible.
“Given the drainage problems, extent of water running down the public road and temperatures at this time of year, this section of the B9152 will need to remain closed to all traffic during the work for public safety reasons.
“I’m told that the initial estimate of closure we are looking at is two weeks, although this will be reviewed as works progress.”
Access from the south to the Highland Wildlife Park, which is open during the entire holiday period is available from the A9 southbound Lynwilg junction turn-off near Aviemore.
