There was double success for Garioch Road Runners in the final meeting in the Running Shop winter cross-country race series at the Balgownie playingfields, Aberdeen, yesterday as George French and Tammy Wilson secured the six-mile prizes.
French led from the start and was never under any threat as he went on to win in 33min 32sec, while Simon Peachey (Cosmic Hillbashers) finished second in 34:46 and his clubmate Kev Harper was third in 35:23.
Wilson was made to work hard for her success, however, as Aberdeen AAC’s Gemma Cormack never allowed the Kintore runner to relax.
Wilson opened a small lead over the first half of the course but Cormack managed to force her way back into contention and went to the front at the beginning of the last of the three laps of the playing fields.
There was little between the two going into the final mile but Wilson was eventually able to pull away, opening up a slight advantage as she sprinted home in 37:44, 2sec ahead of Cormack.
Carly McNeil (Aberdeen AAC) won the women’s three-mile race in 20:22 with her clubmate Lukasz Czyzycki taking the men’s award in 17:44.
