A video highlighting north-east attractions is being shown in more than 36 tube stations in and around Frankfurt in the latest marketing campaign to lure more Germans to the region.
Interest in the north-east is expected to grow, thanks to the joint promotion by VisitScotland, Aberdeenshire Council and German airline Lufthansa.
They hope to capitalise on the three daily flights from Frankfurt to Aberdeen, as well as key events taking place in Scotland during 2014.
VisitScotland said the 15-second video, which is available online, was likely to be seen by as many as 1.9million people.
The tourism body added: “It promotes the diversity of the landscape, stunning scenery, unique assets of the region, including the Castle trail, whisky, land and seascapes, wildlife, food and drink.
“It also highlights the direct access to Aberdeenshire from Frankfurt with Lufthansa.”
VisitScotland regional director Philip Smith said the new marketing push was built on the success of previous jointly-run campaigns.
“Germany is an important target market,” he said, adding: “With Lufthansa flying three times daily into Aberdeen International Airport, the opportunity to leverage this for the benefit of the tourism economy of the north-east is that much greater.
“Tourism, whether it is business or leisure visitors, has an impact on every part of the north-east economy.”
“Working in partnership to grow our tourism industry in Aberdeen city and shire offers many sustainable long-term benefits for the region.”
Aberdeenshire Council infrastructure services committee chairman Peter Argyle said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of Aberdeenshire as an ideal destination for German visitors with direct links from Frankfurt.
“Previous partner campaigns promoting the north-east of Scotland to the German tourism market have already been extremely successful and I am pleased to see we continue to strengthen tourism links between the north-east of Scotland and Germany.”
Lufthansa started flying between Aberdeen and Frankfurt in October 2011.
Christian Schindler, the airline’s general manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “We saw a 9% increase in passenger numbers on our flights between Aberdeen and Frankfurt in 2013, compared to the previous year.”
