Inverurie Locos will face Cove in the final of the Aberdeenshire Shield on Wednesday night, but needed extra time to see off a spirited Huntly at Harlaw Park last night.
Although Locos enjoyed the majority of the possession all that separated the sides at the interval was former Peterhead forward David Ross’ 28th-minute goal.
Huntly rallied after the break and David Booth deservedly scored a 64th minute leveller, but Dean Donaldson settled the match in the 106th minute.
Locos created the game’s first real opportunity in the ninth minute but 40-year-old Huntly goalkeeper Richard Bowman got down well to confidently gather Neil Gauld’s 15-yard drive.
Bowman was beaten when Donaldson’s deep cross picked out Ross and he drilled the ball low past the helpless goalkeeper from 10 yards.
Huntly equalised when Neale Davidson played the ball into Booth who swivelled before scoring from six yards.
Three minutes later the visitors almost turned the game on its head but substitute Pawel Nowacki’s ferocious 15-yarder cannoned back off the post.
Locos thought they should have been awarded a penalty in the 69th minute when Gauld appeared to have his heels clipped in the box by Grant Campbell, but referee Andy Milne waved play on.
Huntly had the ball in the Locos net again shortly after but former Don Michael Hart was clearly offside when he tucked the ball away after Reid had blocked a stinging Hrvoje Kovacevic drive.
In the 104th minute Huntly were reduced to 10-men when Booth was red-carded for elbowing Ross Anderson.
Locos booked their place in the final a minute into the second period of extra-time when Donaldson’s effort beat Bowman from eight yards.
