If they are going to go down, they are going to go down swinging and will come back stronger.
That’s the message from Aberdeen Grammar coach Kevin Wyness as his side face their biggest game of the season tomorrow at Currie.
Anything other than a win for Grammar will consign them to relegation from the Premiership.
Wyness and his players know it is win or bust, but whatever the outcome he insists everyone at the club will learn from the experience of this campaign.
He said: “Coaching in the Premiership has been a massive experience for me and I’ve learned a great deal.
“Of course I want us to stay in the division but if go down we will come back stronger, I’m sure of that.
“I’m an honest guy who tells it like it is and I know I’ve made mistakes. I will reflect on them in the summer and be better for the experience I’ve gained.
“We’ve flattered to deceive at times, but I cannot fault the players for their effort or commitment.
“We didn’t start the season well and when you are a team which is not used to winning games it becomes a tough run to break.
“We lost to Melrose last week but they regard us as one of the better teams in the division despite the fact we are bottom.
“But we’re not giving up. We’ve played well in the last two games and if we can produce that level of performance against Currie we will win the game, I’m convinced of that.”
Wyness’ squad is stretched for tomorrow’s game but he insists his players will be ready to give their all.
He added: “We’ve got the smallest club in the league but when it comes to commitment my squad has given everything. Our prop Matt Dixon was supposed to be at a stag weekend in Dublin as this was originally a free week, but he has given up the trip because of what’s at stake for the club.
“Struan Cessford and Erlend Oag are playing for the club international side on Friday while Andy Cameron is starting for the Scotland under-20s.
“Erlend is starting against France, but has asked to be on the bench on Saturday while Struan is on the bench on Friday and says he wants to start on Saturday.
“Matt Schosser has stayed as long as he could to help out but he left this week to go to New Zealand for his brother’s birthday.
“The good news is prop Nicki Fraser is available to play for us which means we will still be strong in the front row.”
