County’s greatest challenge

County’s greatest challenge

Ross County defender Scott Boyd has won titles and been to cup finals with the Staggies, but believes the Dingwall club now faces one its of biggest challenges to stay in the Scottish Premiership.

With just five games left until the league splits, County are in the relegation play-off position but are level on points with Partick Thistle and just one behind St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

Centre back Boyd, who returned to the side for the first time since January 11 in the 1-1 Dingwall draw against the Firhill side on Saturday, hopes to play a key role in taking his club away from the bottom of the table.

The 27-year-old was part of the County squads which won the First and Second Division titles, the Challenge Cup and made it to the 2010 Scottish Cup final.

All that matters is the immediate future with Derek Adams’ side next in action when they travel to Perth to take on St Johnstone on Saturday, March 15.

Boyd said: “I was happy to be back in the team, but it is not about me, it is about putting points on the board for the club – that is the main thing.

“I have been fortunate enough to have been part of a lot of good times at County, this season is my seventh at the club.

“It was a bit frustrating to be on the bench, but I have been working hard to get back in.

“It is so tight at the bottom, there is only a point between four teams and it is going to change every week.

“We need to make sure we put points on the board every week and we hope to kick on in the next five games.”

The former Livingston and Partick Thistle player added: “It was unfortunate we did not take the three points against Partick on Saturday.

“It was always going to be a tough game against Thistle when you look at the position both clubs are in.

“We took a point and we will try to build on it in two weeks at St Johnstone.

“We will go down there trying to pick up more points and get ourselves out of the position we find ourselves in just now – that’s all that matters.”
