Inspectors have been called in to investigate a complaint about a fee- paying Aberdeen school’s nursery.
It is understood they are focusing on allegations that children at the Waldorf establishment in the city were restrained inappropriately.
The independent school at Cults has a roll of about 100 youngsters in its lower and senior levels and three groups in its kindergarten.
Last night, the Care Inspectorate confirmed it was investigating a complaint about the kindergarten, which is for children aged between two-and-half to six.
The investigation was launched just weeks after the independent Hamilton School in Aberdeen was shut down amid concerns over child welfare.
A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said: “We are currently investigating a complaint about the Aberdeen Waldorf School Kindergarten.
“We take all complaints seriously and any concerns raised with us are investigated fully.
“Our first priority is always the safety and wellbeing of children.”
One woman who contacted the Press and Journal claimed she had been “alarmed” by an incident in the kindergarten. She said: “The children were laying on the floor with their mattresses or whatever.
“One of the children didn’t want to sleep or rest and the teacher was kneeling down to the child, pushing his head into the pillow.
“You don’t do that to a child just because he doesn’t want to sleep.”
One parent said: “Complaints have gone into the Care Inspectorate and there were two of them at the school on Thursday, following up.
“Children in the kindergarten are being restrained.
“I’m speaking out for the right reasons.”
The Scottish Government and Care Inspectorate shut down the Hamilton School last month amid safety concerns, forcing parents of about 300 pupils to find new primary or nursery places.
While Aberdeen City Council reopened Braeside Primary to ensure the children’s education would not be disrupted, it is understood several of the youngsters are now at the Waldorf.
A spokesman for the school declined to comment last night.
