Energy show uptake ‘strong’

Energy show uptake ‘strong’

Oil industry travel expert Munro’s Travel has reported unprecedented demand from clients planning to attend the world’s top energy show.

The Aberdeen business has only a handful of flight-and-accommodation packages left for the annual Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), a four-day event which opens in the US oil capital of Houston on Monday, May 5.

“We are still several weeks away from the event and are already almost sold out,” Murray Burnett, the firm’s managing partner, said yesterday.

He added: “Demand is strong for OTC packages every year, but they have been booked much faster this time around.

“It is a reflection of how busy the oil industry is worldwide.”

More than 100,000 people from all around the world are expected to attend May’s event and, as usual, there will be a big Scottish presence.

Munro’s and the Press and Journal are organising their regular visit to OTC for in excess of 300 delegates through a tie-up which dates back to 1973.

Rooms have again been allocated for the group at its regular HQ hotel, the Hilton Houston Post Oak.

The continuing popularity of the Munro’s trip is reflected in the fact that 90%-plus of the delegates booked for 2014 have been to OTC with the company previously.

Mr Burnett said: “This is the largest oil show in the world and it gives our group the chance to see cutting-edge technology, hear the latest industry news and make valuable new contacts.”

Munro’s employs more than 120 people at its offices in Union Street.
