Aberdeen Harbour Board chief executive Colin Parker has become the 37th winner of the annual Grampian Industrialist of the Year title.
The honour came at a black-tie dinner attended by more than 250 guests at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel and Spa at Blairs, near Aberdeen, last night.
Mr Parker, who joined the harbour board in 1987 and became its CEO in 2006, adds his name to a prestigious list of past winners.
The title is awarded each year by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Aberdeen and was created to recognise outstanding entrepreneurs in the region.
JCI Aberdeen director Calum Lawrie said: “It was an honour and privilege to present the 37th Grampian Industrialist of the Year Award to Colin.
“He has played a significant role and has led and grown Aberdeen Harbour Board over the past 17 years. He represents the importance of north-east business excellence and is a key figure in our economy.”
Aberdeen harbour is Europe’s main sea transport hub for the North Sea energy industry, with shipping links to more than 47 countries.
As well as leading the port’s management team, Mr Parker is chairman of the north-east committee of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) and an SCDI board member. In 2009, he became a Burgess of Aberdeen.
Last year’s Grampian Industrialist accolade went to James Barrack, the chairman and managing director of Knight Property Group and MD of Chess Group.
Hydrasun chief executive Bob Drummond was honoured in 2012 and the year before that it was Bob Kidd, then executive chairman of ITS Energy Services.
Former Wood Group chairman Sir Ian Wood was the first winner and he was followed by the likes of Jimmy Milne, Alasdair Locke, Douglas Craig, Bob Keiller and George Yule.
The roll call also includes controversial businessman and former Dundee Football Club director Calum Melville, who was at the centre of a bitter legal battle after he left Cosalt Offshore.
JCI Aberdeen officially launched its new charity partnership with Inspire last night, and it also donated more than £6,000 to the Friends of Anchor cancer charity.
