Aberdeen yesterday avoided Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-finals to win the competition.
The Dons will take on manager Derek McInnes’s former club St Johnstone in the final four, with the match being played at Ibrox on Saturday, April 12. The Dons defeated Saints 4-0 in the League Cup semi-final but the manager is remaining cautious about securing a place in the final against either Dundee United or the winners of the quarter-final replay between Rangers and League 2 side Albion Rovers after the pair drew 1-1 at Ibrox yesterday.
McInnes said: “Whoever we got, it was always going to be tough. We know each other inside out and, while we came out on top in the League Cup, that will not have any bearing on this one. On the face of it, it’s a reasonable draw but that would be the case whoever we got at this stage.”
Saints are chasing a first Scottish Cup final appearance after losing their previous eight semi-finals – including four in the competition since the turn of the century.
But they face a Dons side which has not conceded a goal to Saints in four games this term.
Dundee United are next in the betting at 5-2 with Scottish bookmaker McBookie.com, which has pushed Rangers all the way out to 4-1 fourth favourites after their failure to beat Albion Rovers yesterday.
McBOOKIE ODDS: 7-4 Aberdeen, 5-2 Dundee United, 11-4 St Johnstone, 4-1 Rangers, 250-1 Albion Rovers.
