Cycling hero Hoy to hear from future entrepreneurs

Six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy is coming to Aberdeen to help inspire the next generation of business leaders.

School pupils taking part in Young Enterprise Grampian are being given the chance to present their business ideas to the Scots cycling hero next month.

The sportsman has agreed to be judge and guest speaker at this year’s Young Enterprise Grampian Finals Dinner, which is being held at The Marcliffe at Pitfodels.

First Oil – owned by Aberdeen entrepreneur Ian Suttie – has agreed to sponsor the event for a sixth consecutive year.

Mr Suttie said yesterday: “Throughout the year there are many people who work hard to provide a meaningful and enriching experience for the young participants which allows the pupils to build their confidence and develop their personal skills to become Scotland’s future business leaders.”

“This year’s event will be a unique opportunity for all those attending to meet and hear from a multi-gold medal Scottish Olympian.”

He added: “We are delighted to support budding young entrepreneurs – they are our future.”

Previous highly-recognised speakers have included Jo Malone, Michelle Mone, Duncan Bannatyne, Richard Reed, Richard Fairleigh and Doug Richard.

Young Enterprise Grampian is a charity that works to provide practical experience to 5th and 6th year secondary school pupils on running a small business for a year.

This year, 28 companies were created from 15 Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire secondary schools. Out of these companies, six of the best will be chosen to attend the regional finals event.

The finals event is an opportunity to showcase some of the best entrepreneurial talent in the north-east, and celebrates the hard work of the young enterprise teams, the link teachers and the business advisors involved.

Tables for the dinner – on April 28 – are available at a cost of £90 per person.
