When David and Fiona Sheach decided to move home eight years ago, they knew they wanted to find some kind of project.
And it was with the help of the Press and Journal that they managed to find exactly what they were looking for.
“We saw Ingleside advertised in the P&J,” David, who works as an energy and corporate lawyer, said.
“We were looking for a house project and thought this home had great potential.”
Ingleside, 483 North Deeside Road, Cults, is a spectacular fully restored five-bedroom granite house set in secluded mature grounds of around one acre with private parking and direct gated access to the former Deeside railway line.
Following the hard work Fiona and David have put into it, Ingleside is now a modern property concealed in a traditional shell.
From the moment you reach the beginning of the driveway to this magnificent house, it is clear that the couple put a lot of effort into bringing Ingleside into the 21st century.
A solid hardwood door with art nouveau-style stained-glass side panels, created by a local artist, creates a lovely welcome for visitors and gives a hint of the luxury and style that awaits inside.
The first room that is sure to attract your attention is the drawing room – with its high ceilings and alcoves to either side of the fireplace, this is a beautiful and tranquil room, ideal for family living and relaxation.
The grand feel of this home continues in the library, which could be put to a number of uses, and has been fitted with solid timber units. These units are hand crafted and have the lovely addition of a ladder on a brass running rail. This elegant room is by far my favourite and definitely one I would spend most of time in.
Into the kitchen and its chequered-effect black and white tiled floor creates diversity while the decoration adds a touch of excitement to the room. It gives the house a modern edge and beautifully complements the period touches found throughout.
Other rooms of note include the games/cinema/family room which is a huge size and could be used for a number of purposes. Sure to be a plus point for tech-savvy people is the fact that the whole area has a surround-sound speaker system, which is controlled by equipment in the media cupboard.
Leading you upstairs is a beautiful feature, which is a great example of the charm and character that can be found inside Ingleside.
The sweeping staircase has been carpeted and features oak stair rods while a lovely leaded glass window allows natural light to flood the area.
It is here on the first floor where you will one of the highlights of this grand home – the master bedroom.
This is a spectacular room with wonderful views to the south. A ceiling rose, alcoves and the cosy fireplace stand out as the focal points while the en suite shower room adds extra luxury.
There are also four further bedrooms and a walk-in dressing room positioned between the two main bedrooms. It has been fitted with beautiful bespoke furniture and is big enough that if required it could be used as a sixth room.
Similarly, the other rooms are also flexible and could be used for other purposes. At present, two of the bedrooms are used as a craft room and a study.
Last but certainly not least, you will find the gorgeous family bathroom with a free-standing original cast-iron bath and a Victoria-style pedestal sink. There is also a large shower cubicle.
Outside, the house, which has an asking price of offers over £2.1million, is surrounded by stunning landscaped gardens, a lovely wooden summer house, a large garden shed and garaging for three cars.
Its location on North Deeside Road and the views that you can see from it is something that has become a particular favourite for the Sheachs.
“The fantastic uninterrupted view over Deeside Golf Course to Ardoe House is surely one of the best views in Aberdeen,” David said.
“And the free firework displays courtesy of Ardoe House is pretty good too.”
Now the couple have decided to put their grand home on the market finding that now their project is finished, it is too big for just the two of them.
“We have enjoyed the challenge of bringing a fabulous, period property back to its former glory, and bringing it into the 21st century in the process, but it is now time for a change,” David added.
