The schedule is taking its toll but Caley Thistle attacker Billy McKay has vowed to do all he can to keep the club’s European hopes alive.
The Highlanders will play their seventh game in March when they travel to Dundee United on Wednesday and McKay, who scored his 21st goal of the campaign in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Partick, insists no one at Caledonian Stadium is conceding defeat in the chase for Europa League football.
He said: “The games have been coming thick and fast and it’s not given us much chance to rest but I’m happy to play and want to keep playing.
“Had we lost this game it would have made Europe a lot harder for us but we’re still in there with the other teams. Our aim is to hang in there.
“United are up there with us and we have to go there and play our best. If we can play like we did in the second half here I’m confident we can get a win.”
McKay’s goal gave Inverness their first home league win since November 23 when they beat St Johnstone and also ended the club’s 554-minute run without a goal.
The forward was relieved to stop the rot against the Jags.
He said: “It’s been a while, it was important that we got a win. We got on top of the game in the second half and, with the chances we were creating, I knew it was a matter of time before we took one of them.
“We played well on Wednesday at Motherwell but they broke on us twice and got two goals to win the game.
“In the first half against Partick Thistle we were probably the poorest we’ve been all season but we regrouped, came back strongly in the second half and managed to get the three points which is what matters.”
