Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont has claimed the SNP is running a “dishonest, deceptive and disgraceful” campaign to persuade voters to back independence.
She said the nationalists made up the “most dishonest and detached government since the creation of devolution” and were trying to “drag” people to a “place of no return outside the United Kingdom”.
Ms Lamont was speaking at the party’s conference in Perth on Saturday.
She said a Scottish Government pledge to massively increase free childcare after a Yes vote was a “patronising and cynical con” to woo female voters.
SNP MSP Linda Fabiani claimed it was a “desperate speech filled with over-the-top attacks” in an attempt to distract attention from the “absolute mess” of Labour’s devolution commission report.
But Ms Lamont said the report contained a vision to enhance devolution and create a “new powerhouse Scottish Parliament”.
“The Nationalists are running the most dishonest, deceptive and disgraceful political campaign this country has ever seen,” she added.
She also said that under Labour plans Holyrood would have control of housing benefit, attendance allowance and employment tribunals. A new health and safety executive would be set up.
A government spokes-man said it had boosted free childcare provision and further improvements could only be made if it had full control of all finances.
