Lawyers acting on behalf of Brora Rangers will seek a court injunction preventing next Wednesday’s Highland League Cup first-round tie between Clachnacuddin and Deveronvale from being played.
On Monday, Highland League leaders Brora were expelled from the cup competition for fielding ineligible player Liam Watt in a preliminary-round win over Clach on March 1.
Brora are incensed at the decision to throw them out of the tournament without a right of appeal and have called for the decision to be revoked.
The Highland League management committee has agreed to discuss the Brora Rangers request at a meeting.
But, with the case not due to be heard until after Wednesday, Brora have decided to take action in a bid to prevent the tie.
Brora committee member David Dowling, a former chairman of Clachnacuddin who left the Lilywhites in 2010 to join his current club, believes Brora have no option but to try to call a halt to the game.
He said: “The Highland League has informed our solicitors Simpson and Marwick, who are experts in legal matters in sport, that our request will be discussed – but not before Wednesday’s game.
“They have also refused to postpone the match until such time as our appeal can be heard, which we find unacceptable.
“We have therefore instructed our solicitors to raise court proceedings asking for the game between Clach and Deveronvale to be postponed and we are hopeful of getting our case heard in court next Wednesday on the day of the game.”
