Pictures have been released of a gritter which overturned while tending to Shetland roads earlier today.
With the country gripped in snowstorms and cold weather, armies of council gritters have been sent out across the country to ensure the roads are safe for commuters.
The gritter was working on the A970 at The Lang Kames, approximately four miles south of Voe, Shetland when it left the road and rolled down an embankment for a short distance.
The two people in the vehicle, both council workers, escaped through the cab and are currently receiving medical treatment for minor injuries.
A council spokesman said: “Police promptly attended the scene, along with other Council staff who were contacted by the driver using a mobile phone.
“Road conditions at the time were slushy and wet, between prolonged spells of sleet and hail showers. No other vehicles or third parties were involved.”
The council added said that the cause of the accident is unknown but have confirmed that an internal investigation will be carried out.
The gritter will be recovered from the roadside in the next few days, when weather conditions allow.
