Torphins athlete Rhona Auckland was last night named sports personality of the year in the annual Aberdeenshire Sports Council awards.
Auckland beat Inverurie fly fisherman Steven Corsar to the accolade as the awards ceremony was held at Garioch Sports Centre, Inverurie.
More than 200 people attended the ceremony in which rower Katherine Grainger CBE, the 2012 Olympic double sculls champion, was the guest of honour.
During the evening, sports council chairman Alan Still and provost Jill Webster of Aberdeenshire Council jointly presented the Olympic gold medallist with a special achievement award to mark her outstanding performance in London.
Grainger later entertained the assembled company when she took part in a 30-minute question-and-answer session with Press and Journal sports writer Dave Edwards.
