Thurso played host to the Scottish surfing champion- ships on Saturday.
Conditions were just about perfect with a good swell allowing the competitors to go through their paces.
Last year’s open champion Chris Noble, from Fraserburgh but based at Thurso for the last 15 years, said: “I was delighted to retain my title. Conditions were good, although they weren’t the best at Thurso east in the morning.
“As the tide went back the swell got smaller and smaller, so we moved along to Brims Ness, about six miles from Thurso, which produced more challenging waves. It gave us a chance to show what we could do.
“Fraserburgh’s Iain Masson, who has won the Scottish title, came a very cre- ditable fourth. This year’s runner-up, Mark Cameron, is also a past champion, and I know that Mark Boyd, who finished third, is keen to take this title.”
RESULTS – Open competition: 1 C. Noble, Thurso; 2 M. Cameron, Fraserburgh; 3 M. Boyd, Thurso.
Seniors’ competition (over 28s): 1 R Cruickshank, Fraserburgh; 2 L. Cruickshank, Fraserburgh; 3 S. Christopherson, Edinburgh.
