A Highland landowner has revealed he will resubmit plans to redesign a caravan park near Aviemore.
Rothiemurchus Estate had submitted proposals to change the layout of the Coylumbridge site, which has permission for 17 touring pitches, 50 static caravans and 22 tents.
But the application was later withdrawn after planning bosses indicated they would likely be recommended for refusal. Conservationist groups in the region had also opposed the redesign amid concerns over the impact on ancient pine trees on the site, which is covered by a tree preservation order.
Yesterday landowner Johnnie Grant stressed the plans were not about extending the caravan site, but improving the “experience” for customers.
He said this had not been made clear enough in the original plans, and they were looking at “re-spacing” the site rather than build more pitches. The proposals be decided by the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA).
He added: “Now that we know a new application will be called in, we will work with Cairngorms National Park Authority to ensure clarity for all in a new application, probably in the autumn.”
A spokesman for the Badenoch and Strathspey Conservation Group said the proposed site was outwith land allocated for development. He added: “The suitability of this site for development has never been consulted on in any local development plan.”
