Two Aberdeen energy service firms have teamed up for a £2.5million investment in a new rig repair and subsea fabrication site in Dundee.
Oil and gas engineering consultancy PD&MS Energy and specialist fabrication and engineering company Harlen have invested an initial £1million in the workshop, with a further £1.5million expected over the next three years.
The 38,750 sq ft operation at Princess Alexandra Wharf is expected to house up to 50 full-time employees – rising to around 260, including contractors, at peak times – and manage offshore projects worth more than £8million in its first year.
Harlen will deliver fabrication services from the site, which replaces leased facilities at neighbouring Prince Charles Wharf and is equipped for rig repair and upgrades, vessel repair and mobilisations, large fabrications and general work across other energy sectors.
PD&MS executive chairman Dave MacKay said: “The buoyant offshore market and our extremely robust order book have given us the confidence to invest significantly in these new premises, as well as expanding our offering in the growing decommissioning sector.”
Harlen managing director Bruce Gill added: “This facility increases not just our physical capacity and capability in supporting PD&MS in the rig repair market, its quayside location will allow Harlen to extend its offerings in the subsea equipment, topside module, accommodation module and large-scale fabrication sectors”
PD&MS is also looking for new office space in Aberdeen for up to 400 staff.
