Ross County players and coaches have helped fund transport for supporters to the Scottish Premiership match at Hearts on Saturday, April 19.
Gary Bisset from Embo in Sutherland, started a campaign which encouraged County supporters to wear the club’s traditional dark blue colours and travel to Tynecastle next week.
The campaign aims to persuade as many Staggies supporters as possible to make the journey south and the County board backed it by providing free transport.
Now the club’s coaches and players have contributed to the fund.
Manager Derek Adams, pictured, believes a big away support at already-relegated Hearts will provide inspiration and motivation as County target seventh place in the Scottish Premiership table.
The Dingwall club are currently in ninth position, just three points adrift of seventh-placed Hibs.
Adams said: “As a group we have made a donation to help pay for the buses down for the supporters.
“We know it is difficult for supporters to get to away games. It will be bene- ficial to us and I am sure there will be a healthy away support at the game.
“We have three away games left this season and we hope to get a bigger away support. The club has done it throughout the season, we have helped supporters get to away games. We know how noisy the away support can be at Tynecastle and we wanted to give an easier opportunity to get to the game by providing free buses.”
Lifelong supporter and season ticket holder Bisset, 43, hopes as many supporters as possible take up the club’s offer of free transport to Edinburgh.
He said: “After the Highland derby (County lost 2-1 to Caley Thistle on Friday, April 4) I was thinking of ways to try to drum up support. One idea was to have a Dark Blue Day for an away game as our attendances can be a little poor on the road at times. I e-mailed the club to ask if they could help us with the cost of tickets and travel and they responded with the offer of sponsoring the buses. I am thrilled about it and hopefully we can create a little bit of history in making it our largest away support since the Scottish Cup final against Dundee United in 2010.”
