A church-based group that helps late-night revellers on the streets of Elgin celebrated its first anniversary at the weekend.
The Elgin Street Pastors team was set up to ensure that Saturday night pub and club-goers get home safely.
The group, which has volunteers from six different churches throughout Moray, helps people into taxis and supports those who have lost their friends or had too much to drink.
Their work allows police officers to devote their time to more serious incidents.
Elgin Street Pastors co-ordinator Sarah Johnson said: “I can’t believe it’s been a year – it’s gone so quickly.
“I think it’s fair to say that the door stewards and even some of the police were a bit wary when we first started doing this.
“Such a response was hardly surprising because what we do is different and new.
“Now, however, both actually seek us out when there is a problem we can help with. Their support has been amazing.
“The response from the public has been wonderful as well.
“Obviously, a lot of people were asking a lot of questions at first about what we were doing, but we’ve become accepted and are welcomed now.
“Although we’re all from different churches, we work together to focus on the bigger picture of how we can help.”
During the past year the group has given away 211 pairs of flip-flops to revellers who are tottering about on high heels after too much to drink.
The pastors have foil blankets and beanie hats for those whose party outfits do not keep them sufficiently warm.
The street pastors have 16 volunteers who, in batches of four, tour the streets of Elgin from 10pm-4am.
