Newtonmore attacker Danny MacRae will play through the pain barrier in tomorrow’s match against Orion Premiership leaders Lovat, but he fears his shoulder injury is deteriorating.
The 29-year-old made a two-goal comeback last week and is determined to play in the match of the two unbeaten teams at the Eilan.
“The shoulder is still giving me bother and the club physio reckons it is tendon trouble,” he said. “I was desperate to get back after missing a couple of games and I’ll certainly be there against Lovat.
“I haven’t had a medical verdict so far but I’ve decided to see a doctor as I recognise the injury could get worse.”
Macrae, who made his first team debut at 15, is full of praise for Lovat, who are two points ahead of the champions from one game more played.
He added: “Lovat are going well, but that’s no surprise after the way they improved last season. They’ve so many very fit young players.
“Greg Matheson and Kevin Bartlett have been scoring the goals for them but I think we’ve got the most solid defence in the Premiership.
“Cameron Binnie and Steven MacDonald have been playing particularly well for us and we’ve got the bit between the teeth as we chase more honours.”
Lovat have a full squad to choose from for what should be an entertaining match as the Kiltarlity men have rattled in 16 goals in five league games to Newtonmore’s 14 from four.
Lovat lost 1-0 at Newtonmore at the end of last season, with Fraser Mackintosh netting, but had a goal disallowed and felt aggrieved.
Fourth-placed Glen-urquhart hope to have David Smart fit to return in their trip to Inveraray. Broken thumb victim Andrew Corrigan hopes to play if he is not required on offshore duty.
Neale Reid and Arran MacDonald also return for the Blairbeg Park outfit. Inveraray are the surprise name in bottom spot as they are chasing their first win.
Douglas Dando is still out for the Argyll men but David Robertson’s return from injury is a lift.
