Fresh overnight snow fell on roads already lined with ice, causing hazardous driving conditions in and around the city.
It’s been reported that some spent an hour trying to get to Aberdeen from Westhill and it was the same for those coming in to the city from Stonehaven.
On North Deeside Road vehicles were lined up in gridlock all the way into Aberdeen from the west of Peterculter.
Roadworks at Milltimber added to the delays with it taking some drivers two-and-a-half hours to get from Banchory to Bieldside.
The usual traffic black spots at Holburn Junction, the Beach Boulevard and Haudagain Roundabout were all crowded with huge queues for most of rush hour.
Vehicles also came to a stand still in Garthdee.
Drivers are advised to keep a safe distance from the car in front while stuck in traffic jams.
