A popular vintage vehicle run will return to the roads of rural Buchan this weekend.
The Buchan Vintage Tractor Run is held every year on the last Sunday in April to raise money for local causes and draws enthusiasts from throughout the region.
The event will take place on April 27 with vehicles congregating at Fetterangus hall at 10am. The workhorses, some dating back to the 1940s, will wind their way through Old Deer, Stuartfield, Maud, Cuminestown, New Byth, New Pitsligo and Strichen.
Traditionally, drivers stop in each village to let the public get a closer look at their machines. After lunch in Hatton, the procession will carry on to Cruden Bay before returning to Fetterangus.
The annual run was the brainchild of local tractor enthusiasts. The first run proved so successful it was decided to start using the event to raise cash for charity.
Since it began 14 years ago, the event has raised thousands of pounds for a host of good causes and is well supported by locals – despite the parade’s slow pace along the route.
This year the rally will support Clan Cancer Support and the Buchan Renal Unit at Peterhead Hospital.
Last year’s collection benefited the Grampian Cardiac Rehabilitation Association and was described by organisers as a roaring success.
Gordon McRobbie, one of the event organisers, said: “We had 91 vehicles leave Fetterangus to take part in the run last year.
“We always stop to let people get a good look at the tractors and children love to see them.
“It is also nice for older folk who remember when these machines were working the land around here – that is important as a farming community.
“This is an annual event but it was originally only intended to be a one off – it’s proven to be a big success.”
