POLICE raided a series of addresses in the Fraserburgh area yesterday in the latest phase of a major operation that has netted almost £300,000 in illegal drugs.
The previous day, officers recovered diamorphine and crack cocaine worth £70,000 when they swooped on homes in New Pitsligo.
A 15-year-old boy is among four people who have been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with that find. Three have appeared in court.
Six search warrants have been executed across the area in the past week.
Senior officers said the two-month campaign was targeting a different kind of drug user from the stereotypes portrayed in the book and film Trainspotting.
The problem is now shifting to wealthier areas, where a growing number of well-paid professionals in powerful jobs are buying and selling substances such as cocaine and ecstasy.
In these cases, police say they will hit offenders in their wallets by seizing expensive cars and other symbols of their luxury lifestyles.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond, who led yesterday’s raids, said officers relied on locals to come forward with suspicions about drug dealing in their towns and villages. “Intelligence from the public is like gold dust to us,” he said.
“We want to make this a hostile environment for these people to operate and we will use every resource available to do so.”
