Speyside farmer Dod McConachie won both the champion and reserve titles at a show and sale of store cattle held by Aberdeen and Northern Marts at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, yesterday.
Mr McConachie, who farms at Lethendry, Cromdale, was awarded the championship at the Elanco-sponsored show for an 11-month-old, 464kg British Blue bullock which went on to sell for £1,300 to Reidhall Farms, Strathcathro, Brechin.
Judge Wilson Gray, of North Easterton, Hatton, Peterhead, then awarded the reserve title to Mr McConachie’s pair of 402kg Limousin cross bullocks – these were also snapped up by Reidhall Farms for £1,100.
ANM sold 658 store cattle, including 164 organic beasts and 18 head of breeding cattle, at the sale yesterday.
Bullocks (237) averaged 247.7p and sold to 296.9p a kg and £1,325.
Heifers (257) averaged 228.7p a kg and sold to 278.5p and £1,140.
In the organic cattle sale, 103 bullocks sold to an average of 261.3p a kg and top of 295.3p and £1,365. Heifers (61) sold to an average of 251.7p a kg and a top of 284.2p and £1,320.
