Former Amec and KDC director Nigel Jenkins has been named as the new chief executive of the body representing the North Sea decommissioning industry.
Mr Jenkins, who was a director of Decom North Sea until October last year, will return to the organisation on July 1 to replace retiring chief executive Brian Nixon.
The engineering graduate was formerly sales and marketing director with KDC and Amec, along with serving as strategy director with Aecom.
He joins as focus on the decommissioning sector increases in the wake of the Wood Review, with the industry expected to be worth more than £4billion on the UK continental shelf alone.
“I am excited about the future of offshore decommissioning,” said Mr Jenkins.
“The recent Wood Review highlighted the need for operators, the supply chain and regulators to work together to develop innovative decommissioning solutions, maximising the value derived from the North Sea.
“Decom North Sea has become the representative body for the industry and is uniquely positioned to meet this challenge. I am looking forward to leading the organisation through this fascinating period.”
Mr Nixon was named the organisation’s first chief executive in January 2010. Last month the industry veteran received an award for significant achievement at the Offshore Achievement Awards in recognition of his time at the group.
Decom North Sea chairman Murdo MacIver said the new appointment would bring fresh experience to the organisation.
“Nigel is a proven leader with the experience to help set the vision and strategic direction for Decom North Sea as the market develops,” he said.
“We are confident Nigel will add vital new perspectives, insight, skills and experience to Decom North Sea to the benefit of its members and other stakeholders.”
Meanwhile, Dong Energy Wind Power’s country manager, Benj Sykes, has been announced as the new co-chairman of the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC).
Mr Sykes replaces Keith Anderson, the chief corporate officer of ScottishPower, who has held this role since 2010, and will remain a member of OWIC.
